Alberni Valley Employment Centre is owned and operated by Island Work Transitions Inc. (IWT), and has been delivering employment services funded by the Government of Canada and Province of British Columbia since 2007. IWT operates a full-time office in Port Alberni and two part-time offices in Ucluelet and Tofino, providing free assistance and support to job-seekers in the Alberni-Clayoquot region of Vancouver Island, BC. Services to other communities in the region (such as Bamfield and Ahousaht) are provided through a combination of virtual and outreach delivery modes. Everyone is welcome to use AVEC's Resource Centres, which are fully staffed and equipped to provide access to self serve resources, including current employment opportunities, labour market information, and the use of computers, fax machines, photocopiers and telephones for job search and related activities. Employment Counsellors are available to help unemployed clients make career decisions, conduct a successful job search, or apply to participate in government funded services, based on eligibility. These services include group workshops, training supports, skills assessments, wage subsidy, self-employment services, and customized job placement. Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who come together to solve their drinking problem. It doesn’t cost anything to attend A.A. meetings. There are no age or education requirements to participate. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem.

Service provided by the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Walk-in intake clinics for children, youth and their families where they can receive a same-day initial assessment by a trained professional in a confidential environment. The program is offered to children and youth aged 0-18 years of age at no cost. It is designed to support children and youth experiencing significant difficulties related to their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Services include: - intake and referral - consultations - mental health assessment - individual treatment - group treatment - parenting and child interventions Concerns most commonly addressed at these centres include anxiety, depression, severe behaviour problems, psychosis and complex mental health concerns. Mental Health teams may include nurses, counsellors, occupational therapists, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and support staff. Each team is unique, with the mix of staff and services reflecting the needs of each community and population.

Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island is a registered charity that raises funds to support the health of children and youth on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

The Community Health Speech-Language Program provides services for children from birth to 5 years of age who have or who are at risk of communication delays. It is a single-discipline program with services provided by speech-language pathologists. Depending on the region, services may also be provided in conjunction with communication health assistants.

The program offers one-on-one support to individuals with support needs, helping them build independence and connect with their community. Participants receive assistance in developing daily living skills, such as taking the bus, cooking meals, doing laundry, and staying safe. Support is also provided to access community resources like banks, grocery stores, and local services. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to make friends, improve communication, and practice social skills through group activities.

The Community Youth Worker takes a family-centered approach to supporting youth and families, recognizing the important role of the family in promoting the well-being and development. Originally named The Pacific Child and Family Enrichment Society, PacificCARE Family Enrichment Society was founded in 1989 by child care professionals who had collaborated for 15 years. This nonprofit organization operates primarily through the Child Care Resource and Referral Program (CCRR), funded by The Ministry of Education and Child Care, aimed at improving child care accessibility and quality in Central and Northern Vancouver Island.

The PEACE Program is a support and prevention program that offers individual and group counselling to children (ages 3 to 18) who have witnessed or experienced violence or abuse. The program provides counselling to help children heal and build resilience. Counselling is also available to parents, guardians, and family members who have not been involved in the abuse, giving them support as they navigate the challenges of helping their child.

Services include developmental assessments, parent support, Parent & Tot play group, infant massage, toy and book lending library and assistance for transition to pre-school or daycare. IDP Consultants work to optimize a child’s development. They work in partnership with other professionals in the community including Doctors, Public Health Nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and behavioural consultants.

Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) is a not-for-profit volunteer-based organization that operates more than 30 marine rescue stations along the coast of British Columbia from Vancouver’s busy harbour to the remote waters of the North Coast. RCMSAR is a key part of the marine search and rescue (SAR) system, working in one of the most challenging search and rescue regions in the world.

Founded in early September 2014, the Long Beach chapter included approximately 7,600 residents of the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region live between five nuučaan̓uł (Nuu-chah-nulth) First Nations communities hiškʷiiʔatḥ (Hesquiaht First Nation), ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) ƛaʔuukʷiʔatḥ (Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations) Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ (Ucluelet First Nation), and tukʷaaʔatḥ (Toquaht Nation) and two municipalities (Tofino and Ucluelet). The local doctors, who work out of clinics in Tofino, Ucluelet, Ahousaht, Ty-histanis, Hitacu and Macoah while also serving the Emergency Room at Tofino General Hospital, have all become members. Long Beach Chapter is actively working along side the Nuu-Chah-Nulth led Primary Care initiative and in the early stages of launching a Primary Care Network, which will bring some crucial primary care positions to the region. The chapter is particularly looking forward to collaborative partnerships with other health agencies as we develop a truly integrated primary care model.

West Coast Postpartum Support offers a wide range of services to assist families, tailored to living in our remote West Coast communities. Doula Home Visits provide additional care after birthing out of town, and grant funding is available for Indigenous families. The Parent & Baby Groups offer connection, education and emotional support for parents.

The Vancouver Island West Coast Primary Care Initiative Health Society is a non-profit dedicated to upholding and increasing access to Nuu-chah-nulth healing protocol and western primary care for First Nations people living in central Nuu-chah-nulth territories.

This BC Transit service is operated by PWTransit Canada and connects residents and visitors of Tofino, Ucluelet, Long Beach, the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ community of hitaću, and the Tla-o-qui-aht communities of Esowista and Ty-histanis. BC Transit and the ACRD worked closely with members of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government and Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation to identify service levels and bus stop locations. We are also pleased to include Nuu-chah-nulth on our bus stop signs in the West Coast Transit System, a first for BC Transit.

We assist with food security, housing, and employment resources, help navigate government websites and applications for income assistance and disability, offer basic tax return assistance, and provide referrals to other services. You can also access our printer, fax, and internet. All services are confidential and free.

WCRS is a non-profit that provides free and confidential woman’s counselling, child, youth, special needs and family counselling as well as community outreach services. We empower and support healing and wellbeing through safe spaces, education, outreach and counselling.

The Women’s Outreach Program responds to the needs of women and their dependent children who have experienced or are at risk of violence. The Program provides short term counselling, support, referrals, service navigation, advocacy and community education.

This program offers support to youth aged 13-18 and their families or caregivers impacted by substance use. Counsellors work closely with clients at any stage of change, helping them navigate their unique challenges. Counselling services are available in Ahousaht, Tofino, Ty-Histanis, Hitacu, and Ucluelet.
