TFN Health Department
Tla-o-qui-aht Health Department consists of outreach to health services for TFN Members. This also includes access to our Medical Travel Assistance for TFN Patients. Other resources might be health related workshops, events, and information. Contact our health department employees for more information, or updates.
Tofino General Hospital (Island Health)
The hospital Emergency Department is open 24/7 for life-threatening or serious health concerns. Patients are seen based on the urgency of their condition, not the order they arrive. You can also come directly to the Emergency Department. When you arrive, a nurse will check how urgent your condition is. The most serious cases are treated first.
- Signs of a stroke (numbness, confusion, trouble speaking)
- Chest pain or signs of a heart attack
- Major injury or trauma
- Mental health crisis
- Head injury with loss of consciousness
- Pregnancy complications
- Feeling unwell and on dialysis
- Overdose or poisoning
- Sexual assault or rape
Wait times can vary. If your condition is not an emergency, you may be encouraged to visit a same-day or urgent care clinic.

Tofino Volunteer Fire Department
Established in 1959, the Tofino Volunteer Fire Department (TVFD) provides fire protection and emergency services to the community of Tofino, as well as motor vehicle rescue along Highway 4. The TVFD maintains a mutual aid agreement for structure fires with the Ucluelet Volunteer Fire Brigade. The TVFD also provides fire protection to the Tla-o-qui-aht communities at Tin Wis, Esowista, and Ty-Histanis.
Tonquin Medical Clinic
Family practice clinics provide ongoing care such as general checkups, chronic disease management, reproductive and sexual health, disease prevention, mental health and wellness, and children's health. Care at a family practice clinic is available to patients who are attached to a family doctor or nurse practitioner at the clinic.
Toquaht First Nation Administration
t̓uk̓ʷaaʔatḥ have access to various community services, including health, education, family support, and the distribution of traditional foods. We undertake thoughtful infrastructure and economic development projects throughout our ḥaḥuułi, all with the goal of safeguarding our resources for future generations.
Toquaht First Nation Community Services
The Child and Family Wellness program was created to promote the well-being of children, youth, and families, enabling them to thrive. Our child and family wellness worker meets with them to assess their needs, taking a prevention-based approach by providing support before problems arise.
Travel Assistance (Island Health)
Do you live in a rural or remote community and need a ride to medical appointment in another community? Reach out. We may be able to help.
This service may help if:
- You need to travel to a non-emergency medical appointment in another community
- Your appointment is with an Island Health facility or affiliate site
- You live in a rural or remote community within the Island Health region
- You are having difficulty arranging or paying for transportation on your own
- You need door-to-door travel support to get to care safely and reliably

NTC community nursing Wednesdays
Monthly visits from Dr. Marshall / Dr. Blewett..
Regular home and safety assessments for Elders and people with disabilities.
Foot care for residents with diabetes and/or mobility issues.
Physiotherapy and occupational therapy through various Island Health service providers, with a referral from a medical doctor.
Ucluelet Coop Pharmacy
Provides pharmacy services for individuals to obtain, understand and manage their prescriptions. Hours of operation may be subject to change; call ahead to confirm.
Also provides naloxone kits to people who use opioids or are likely to witness an overdose. Pharmacists provide kits free-of-charge to people who are eligible, as well as training in overdose recognition and response.
Ucluelet Fire Rescue
Proudly serving the District of Ucluelet since 1949.
We provide service in Ucluelet, and through service agreements with Electoral “Area C” of the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, the Pacific Rim Highway (BC Highway 4), Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, Long Beach Airport, and Ucluelet First Nation. We have an automatic aid agreement with the District of Tofino for structure fires.

The Ucluelet Recreation Department offers community events and programs for early years, children, youth, adult and older adults. There are three easy ways for program registration: online, by phone, or in person. Spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Vancouver Island Crisis Line
The 24-hour Vancouver Island Crisis Line is a service contracted by Provincial Health Services Authority. The Vancouver Island Crisis Society is committed to providing accessible voice, text and chat crisis intervention and suicide prevention services, including postvention programs. We endeavour to provide emotional support during times of crisis, information about community resources, education intended to promote community wellness, and reduce the incidence of suicide. We value the principles of confidentiality, non-judgmental acceptance, and respect for diversity, personal empowerment, and cooperation.
Victim Link BC
VictimLinkBC staff can connect you to a network of community, social, health, justice and government resources, including victim services, transition houses and counselling resources. They also provide information on the justice system, relevant federal and provincial legislation and programs, crime prevention, safety planning, protection order registry and other resources as needed.

We provide a single access point for individuals seeking adult mental health and substance use services in the Westcoast area, including Tofino, Ucluelet and surrounding regions.

West Coast Postpartum Support
West Coast Postpartum Support offers a wide range of services to assist families, tailored to living in our remote West Coast communities. Doula Home Visits provide additional care after birthing out of town, and grant funding is available for Indigenous families. The Parent & Baby Groups offer connection, education and emotional support for parents.
West Coast Primary Care Initiative Health Society
The Vancouver Island West Coast Primary Care Initiative Health Society is a non-profit dedicated to upholding and increasing access to Nuu-chah-nulth healing protocol and western primary care for First Nations people living in central Nuu-chah-nulth territories.
West Coast Transit Service
This BC Transit service is operated by PWTransit Canada and connects residents and visitors of Tofino, Ucluelet, Long Beach, the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ community of hitaću, and the Tla-o-qui-aht communities of Esowista and Ty-histanis.
BC Transit and the ACRD worked closely with members of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government and Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation to identify service levels and bus stop locations. We are also pleased to include Nuu-chah-nulth on our bus stop signs in the West Coast Transit System, a first for BC Transit.
Westcoast Community Outreach (WCRS) - Ucluelet
We assist with food security, housing, and employment resources, help navigate government websites and applications for income assistance and disability, offer basic tax return assistance, and provide referrals to other services. You can also access our printer, fax, and internet. All services are confidential and free.
