Cultivating Resilience: Strengthening Food Security in Clayoquot Sound

The Clayoquot Biosphere Region Food Action Plan represents a collaborative effort to strengthen food security across the region. Developed through the Clayoquot Biosphere Food Action Planning Project, the initiative was led by the Ucluelet Community Food Initiative in partnership with the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust and supported by funding from the BC Healthy Living Alliance.

The project focused on identifying practical actions to address local food security challenges while building stronger networks and partnerships across the region. The Plan draws on insights gathered through stakeholder meetings and interviews held throughout Clayoquot Sound in early 2010, along with broad community input from public events, surveys, and a review of existing research. These conversations highlighted persistent challenges—such as transportation barriers, remoteness, high food and land costs, limited access to seafood, regulatory constraints, and growing demand for local food—issues that continue to shape daily life and food access within the Biosphere Region.
